The Burning of Prospero: A Personal Perspective
As a loyal son of the Emperor, the news of the Burning of Prospero was devastating. I had served alongside the Thousand Sons for many years, and I had come to know and respect their Primarch, Magnus the Red. He was a powerful psyker, but also a wise and compassionate leader. To learn that he had been betrayed by the Emperor and his own brother, Horus, was a shock that I could barely comprehend.
The destruction of Prospero was a tragedy on a massive scale. The planet was utterly devastated, and its people were slaughtered or enslaved. The Thousand Sons were scattered across the galaxy, and their Legion was all but destroyed. I myself was one of the few who managed to escape.
I have spent the years since the Burning of Prospero trying to understand what happened. How could the Emperor, who I had always believed to be a just and benevolent ruler, order the destruction of an entire world and its people? And why did Magnus, who I had always believed to be a loyal son of the Emperor, turn against him?
I still don’t have all the answers, but I believe that the Burning of Prospero was a necessary evil. The Thousand Sons were a threat to the Imperium, and their destruction was necessary to prevent them from unleashing their full power on the galaxy. Magnus was also a threat, and his betrayal of the Emperor had to be punished.
The Burning of Prospero was a terrible tragedy, but it was also a necessary step in the defense of the Imperium. The Emperor knew that the galaxy was facing a great threat, and he took the necessary steps to protect it. I may not agree with the Emperor’s decision, but I understand why he made it.
